What to Wear to After Prom

Posted By High School Seniors on April 5th, 2009

The dance is over. The prom queen and king have been crowned, the refreshments are gone, and the decorations you worked so hard on are starting to look a little droopy. You’ve had a wonderful prom night with the man of your dreams, and you never want it to end. In fact, you’re still so revved up that you know you can’t possibly go home yet. These feelings are the exact reason that after proms came into being. While after prom is usually much more casual than the dance, and you’re more than ready to get out of your dress and heels, you still need that perfect after prom outfit to continue to wow your man.

For a more formal after prom, you might choose a light, flirty little cocktail dress. Not only will it make you look sexy and feminine, but it will feel a lot more comfortable than your constricting prom dress.

Even if your after prom is more casual, you’ll still want to look your best. How about wearing a halter-top or tunic with a denim skirt? This type of an outfit will allow you to still look put-together without having to alter your hair and make-up.

If this look is still too dressed up for your taste, you can always wear jeans or knee-length gaucho pants with your tunic or halter-top. If your after prom will include any physical activities, this might be the perfect type of outfit to wear.

Your after prom may include outdoor activities or trips out for breakfast where you’ll need a light jacket, especially if the weather is still cool. Plan to take a sweater or a shrug jacket which will both look good with any of the clothes discussed above. You don’t want to add a tacky-looking jacket to the look you’re trying to achieve.

In addition, any of the outfits will look great with low-heeled, strappy sandals. They will fit right in with your still-glamorous look while being fashionable and comfortable.

Maybe you’ve enjoyed reading about an after-prom and you’d love to go to one, but your school hasn’t ever had one. Maybe this is the time to start. By using any of the ideas outlined below, you can have an event which will add to the fun of your prom night.

A school-sponsored party can provide a safe environment in which to have your party after the prom. Talk to your school’s student council or the principal to see if it would be possible for them to sponsor one. Most schools are more than willing, because after-prom can keep their students involved in safe activities instead of being out driving around and drinking. Some activities you might want to consider are rock climbing, laser tag, casino games, and an obstacle course. Naturally, if you and your friends put your heads together, you can come up with more great things to include.

If your school isn’t willing or able to sponsor an after prom event, you can have a more casual get-together at someone’s house. Prior to the party everyone can decide on what snacks and sodas they will bring, and you can always order pizza. You may want to bring favorite movies, CDs, or games, or maybe you’d prefer just to hang out and talk.

If there’s one reasonably close, you can try going to a comedy club as a group after your prom. Some of these clubs will even offer you a group rate or a good deal on all the soda you can drink. When choosing a club you want to go to, first check and make sure that they’ll welcome people younger than 21.

If you really want to be noticed, wear your prom dresses and tuxes to a bowling alley, pool hall, or ice skating arena. You know you’ll have a super time, even if everyone else in the place stares at you. That will only add to the fun.

If you’re lucky and live near a body of water, check on the price of a cabana boat cruise for after your prom. Just think about sitting on the deck of a boat with gentle breezes blowing, sipping non-alcoholic cocktails, and gazing up at the stars. Nothing could be more idyllic or memorable.

If you don’t want to stop dancing, try going to a local nightclub. If you work with the nightclub owners ahead of time, they will often arrange to stop serving alcohol so that high school students can enjoy their facilities on prom night.

You’ll find that whatever activities you choose for your after-prom experience, they will only add to the magic of the evening. You’ll have a lot beautiful moments to remember for years to come.

The Perfect Tux for Prom

Posted By High School Seniors on April 1st, 2009

Prom night is a night for guys as well as girls to fully impress the opposite sex through their fashion. Remember though that the woman’s choice always comes first (like it or not!), and you will need to coordinate with her ensemble to look best. Men will usually dress in tuxedos for prom night, but being part of one of the best-dressed couples may not be quite as simple as you think. Prom is a fun, formal affair where you can get away with some things not considered appropriate for other black tie events, but if you don’t coordinate with the lady on your arm, the whole look can be disastrous-not to mention your lady won’t be very happy with you! Here are three tips to ensure your date and the rest of the prom attendees will be super impressed with your fashionable skills.

Tip #1: Wait & Watch
Knowing what your date will be wearing is the backbone to picking what will look best on you. Women will love that you are actually trying to make for a picture perfect couple, so don’t be shy to ask her lots of questions. The color is one of the most important things you will need to know. Consider asking her to actually come with you to the rental shop with her dress to get the best match. Chances are you will not want to match your accent colors too exactly. That can be very dated and cheesy. You will want to be sure that the two of you are dressed as a couple though and that nothing you choose clashes with her colors. If you want to surprise her, see if you can talk to her mother about kidnapping the dress when you go shopping or even getting a color sample from the store she purchased the dress. You are sure to be well rewarded for the extra effort.

Tip #2: Choose the Right Tuxedo Rental Store
While you want to choose the rental store with the best prices for same items, don’t just choose a store because it is cheap. A few extra dollars to get the highest quality tux in the perfect style and colors can make a huge difference in how great you look. If you can find a tuxedo rental store that specializes in helping you match to her dress, then go for it! Moms, sisters, and female best friends of yours or hers are also great resources to tap into to help you select the perfect ensemble.

Tip #3: Choose the Perfect Accessories
Great accessories will take a tuxedo from boring to brilliant. If you want the most classic and sophisticated look, stick with all black, white and silver. Make the details in the cut, style, and pattern the statement instead of choosing some crazy color. If you are a guy who loves to wear color, then be certain that you coordinate with your date’s colors, but don’t go with an exact match. Don’t even just guess on color. If all you know is that your date’s dress is blue, don’t just randomly choose any blue for your bow tie or cummerbund. You are much better sticking with black or a color like silver that goes with everything than choosing a blue that clashes instead of coordinates.
